My Story — In My Own Words

I’m Mark, founder of Second Mile Ventures LLC.

I’m not going to sugarcoat it: the first half of my life was rough. I have a criminal history, and there are people I took advantage of along the way. That’s the truth, and I own it.

But something changed. I got my second chance, and I decided the second half of my life would look nothing like the first. Today I’m an upright citizen, making an honest dollar with honest work — and I mean that with everything I’ve got.

Here’s the thing: the same skills I once used the wrong way now help me protect people. I know how criminals think. I know how they get in, how they take advantage, how they find the weak spots — because I used to be one of them. Now I use that knowledge to build security: custom security systems, hardened networks, and complete smart home setups that keep families and small businesses safe.

I don’t just want to do honest work. I want to protect the people I once took advantage of — folks like the ones I hurt. That’s what drives every job I take.

Why I Do This: Protecting the Vulnerable

With the rise of the digital age, there’s something I can’t ignore: the people getting hurt the most are the ones who can least fight back — the elderly and folks who never grew up with computers. They get targeted by scams, tricked by fake websites, and left exposed by poor security practices they don’t even know are dangerous.

That’s where I come in. Part of my work is education: sitting down with people, in plain language, and showing them the dangers of poor security practices and poor web security practices — weak passwords, fake emails, shady links, unsecured Wi-Fi. And then I fix it: proper security on home and small business networks, set up right and explained clearly.

I used to take advantage of people. Now I protect the ones who need it most. That’s the second mile.

That’s what “Second Mile” means to me. It’s not just going the extra mile for a customer — it’s the second mile of my life, walked straight.

I bring both blue-collar grit and white-collar tech skills to every job, and I treat every customer the way I wish I’d treated people years ago: honestly, fairly, and with respect.
